LENS | Low Energy Neurofeedback System
Neurofeedback for Pregnancy & Postpartum Wellness
A gentle approach to calming the nervous system during a powerful life transition.
The perinatal period—from conception through the first year postpartum—can bring profound emotional, physical, and psychological changes. For many, this time is also marked by intense challenges: depression, anxiety, panic, intrusive thoughts, rage, overwhelm, or a persistent feeling of being "stuck" or disconnected.
At our practice, we offer LENS Neurofeedback as a complementary, non-invasive treatment option designed to help reset the nervous system and promote emotional regulation. LENS doesn’t require effort, insight, or rehashing difficult memories. It simply helps your brain reorganize and release stuck patterns, creating space for relief, clarity, and connection.
We offer LENS Neurofeedback as a gentle supportive intervention for those navigating:
Pregnancy and postpartum depression, anxiety, and rage
Infertility and the emotional toll of reproductive struggles
Birth trauma, including medical trauma, emergency interventions, or feeling unseen or unsupported
Intrusive thoughts, overwhelm, and nervous system dysregulation
What is LENS?
LENS (Low Energy Neurofeedback System) is a unique form of neurofeedback that uses very low levels of electromagnetic energy—thousands of times weaker than a cellphone signal—to gently stimulate the brain. It does not train the brain like traditional neurofeedback. Instead, LENS works by disrupting maladaptive brainwave patterns, allowing your system to reset and return to a more flexible, responsive state.
When we’re navigating fertility challenges, pregnancy, postpartum recovery, or the early years of parenting, our brains are under constant pressure to adapt. Stress hormones spike, sleep is disrupted, and our nervous system can start to feel stuck in high alert—or like it’s barely functioning at all. Over time, this can show up as persistent anxiety, depression, brain fog, rage, emotional numbness, or exhaustion that doesn’t get better with rest.
LENS (Low Energy Neurofeedback System) offers a way to gently interrupt these patterns and support your brain in returning to a more regulated, responsive state.
LENS can help by:
Reducing the emotional toll of fertility stress and the trauma of loss or failed treatments
Supporting emotional healing after a distressing or traumatic birth
Easing symptoms of postpartum depression, rage, and emotional overwhelm supporting mood stability
Promoting better sleep, focus, energy regulation and nervous system repair
Helping you feel more present and connected with yourself, your body, and your loved ones
Calming fight-or-flight responses, reducing feelings of panic, agitation, and rage
Alleviating brain fog, irritability, and overwhelm
Supporting better sleep, rest, and nervous system repair
Because LENS works below the level of conscious processing, it’s ideal for those who feel too emotionally raw to talk—or who have already done a lot of therapy but still feel something hasn’t fully shifted.
How LENS Supports Reproductive and Perinatal Mental Health
Understanding Brainwaves & Stress Patterns
Our brains naturally produce different types of brainwaves throughout the day, depending on what we’re doing and how we’re feeling. When we're in balance, these brainwaves shift fluidly. But with prolonged stress, trauma, or dysregulation—like what many people experience during infertility, birth trauma, or early parenting—the brain can get stuck in certain patterns, making it hard to feel calm, rested, or emotionally present.
Here’s a quick overview of brainwave activity:
Gamma waves (30+ Hz) are the fastest—linked to intense focus or peak performance
Beta waves (13–30 Hz) help us stay alert, engaged, and goal-oriented
Alpha waves (8–12 Hz) reflect a calm but wakeful state—like when we’re meditating or resting
Theta waves (4–8 Hz) are associated with daydreaming or fogginess—too much can lead to scattered thinking or emotional detachment
Delta waves (0.5–3.5 Hz) are the slowest—linked to deep, restorative sleep
When reproductive or parenting stress pushes us out of balance, we may see too much fast-wave activity (like Beta or Gamma)—causing racing thoughts, panic, or insomnia—or too much slow-wave activity (like Theta or Delta)—which can lead to fatigue, disconnection, or difficulty focusing. The key isn’t to have more or less of one wave, but for the brain to be able to shift between them as needed.
LENS works by using a tiny, non-invasive electromagnetic signal—far weaker than a cell phone—to gently stimulate the brain and reflect back your own brainwave activity with a slight offset. This subtle disruption acts like a nudge, helping the brain “let go” of stuck patterns and reboot itself, much like restarting a computer or clearing out old tabs.
Unlike traditional neurofeedback, LENS doesn’t require effort, attention, or training. You don’t need to concentrate or perform any tasks—it simply helps your brain do what it’s built to do: adapt, regulate, and return to balance.
When you come to the office for a LENS session, you’ll sit comfortably and the clinician will place sensor clips on each earlobe and one to two sensors at a time on various spots on your head, corresponding with what areas we are treating that day. Treatment to each area only lasts a few seconds and then we remove the sensors.
Most folks don’t feel anything, some describe a sense of feeling a wave go through their head or a gentle buzzing. You may feel a sense of calming or quieting in your mind, too. Side effect rates are very low and could include feeling tired, moody, or dizzy- if those happen let your clinician know.
HOW LENS WORKS AND WHAT TO EXPECT
Safe, Gentle, and Efficient
LENS sessions are short (usually under 30 minutes), painless, and highly individualized. We tailor each session to your unique nervous system and reproductive history—especially if you are pregnant, postpartum, or have experienced loss or trauma.
LENS is not a substitute for therapy or medical care—but it is a powerful complement. It can help reduce internal “noise” so that other forms of healing become more accessible and effective. Whether you’re trying to conceive, recovering from a traumatic birth, or parenting through mood and anxiety challenges, LENS can offer relief and help you reconnect with your own resilience.
LENS is Not a Cure—But It Can Be a Catalyst
LENS can enhance your therapy—or stand on its own.
At Growing Well Counseling, we offer LENS Neurofeedback both as a standalone service and as an integrated part of ongoing therapy. You do not need to be a current therapy client to receive LENS sessions here.
You may choose to:
Add LENS to your current individual therapy with us for extra nervous system support between sessions
Come to us just for LENS, while continuing therapy with another provider
Use LENS as a stand-alone support, especially if you’re feeling too overwhelmed to talk, or simply want a non-verbal approach to relief
LENS is a flexible option that can complement any healing path—especially when emotional processing feels stuck, talk therapy feels too activating, or your nervous system is in a state of chronic stress or shutdown.
How LENS Fits Into Your Care
At Growing Well Counseling, LENS Neurofeedback is offered as a gentle, non-invasive tool to support your brain’s natural ability to regulate and heal. While many clients find LENS helpful in reducing symptoms and improving overall well-being, it is not intended to diagnose, treat, or cure any specific medical or psychological condition.
Whether you’re healing from infertility stress, birth trauma, or the invisible weight of new parenthood, LENS offers a quiet, powerful way to support your brain—and your whole self—in recovering and adapting.
LENS is best used as part of a comprehensive care plan, and we encourage clients to continue any medical or mental health treatment they are already receiving. LENS can be a powerful complement to therapy, medication, and other healing supports—helping you move toward greater balance and resilience
LENS is a unique form of neurofeedback that is FDA-registered, using real-time feedback from the brain’s highest frequency waves to gently reflect information back and support the brain’s natural self-regulation.
