EXPANDED AND UPDATED OFFERING! Learn about the many types of trauma in the peripartum period, an essential for anyone working in reproductive mental health- We will discuss types of trauma and how they interplay with physical experiences of fertility treatment, pregnancy, loss, birth, and the postpartum period. We’ll look at birthing person health disparities and intersectional identities with complex traumas. The latter part of the course will provide strategies for treatment intervention, opportunities for collaboration and therapist wellness considerations to avoid vicarious trauma and provider burnout.

Course Objectives

•Identify various types of trauma affecting family planning and perinatal mental health, including past traumas' implications.

•Explore intersectional identities that increase risks of trauma in the peripartum

•Explain obstetric violence and instances of non-evidence-based care, utilizing case examples to illustrate their effects.

•Assess methods for guiding clients to become advocates for their perinatal healthcare and empower them with evidence-based information

•Develop and employ supportive psychotherapy, relaxation techniques, and guided imagery exercises for trauma survivors in the perinatal period
